The 144th Kentucky Derby is right around the corner, so break out your pastel attire and boldest hats and attend one of Napa Valley’s annual Derby events. Here are a few Napa Valley spots that are throwing a Derby bash where all are invited to gather and cheer on the horses and jockeys at the ‘Run for the Roses’.
Head down to the southernmost winery in the Napa Valley for a Derby Party amongst the animals. Jamieson Ranch Vineyards lies on a beautiful estate with cattle grazing the rolling hillsides, a bee apiary, and miniature horses. Their lovely outdoor seating area has spectacular views that overlook the vineyards and their art wall features local artist murals that are a must-see.
Their Kentucky Derby celebrations kick off at 1pm and include a Derby hat competition and a taste of Jamieson’s new spring release wines paired with delicious small bites. Featured cuisine includes olive oil poached pacific albacore tuna, duck confit, shrimp and smoked grits, and more. You will also receive the coveted opportunity to meet the ranch’s 38-inch-tall mini horses, Whinnie the Pooh, Sweet Jane, and Molly.
You must try their 2015 Double Lariat Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. This bold, yet elegant Cab is both Barrel Fermented and Barrel Aged with notes of black currant, anise and cedar, with featured flavors of cassis, blackberry, and black cherry. Reservations are required. For more information, visit Jamieson Ranch Vineyards. 1 Kirkland Ranch Rd, American Canyon
With history dating back to the year 1868, Beringer Estates is one of the first Napa Valley wineries. Gather in the historic Rhine House to watch the race with your best Kentucky Derby attire. Best dressed will choose what special wine will be opened for all to taste and purchase at a special Derby Day discount price. If you can, get your hands on their private reserve wines, which are truly standout. No reservations required. Visit Beringer Estates for more information. 2000 Main St, St. Helena
