Today we’re shining the spotlight on one of our absolute favorite wineries in all of wine country. Trinchero Napa Valley is fairly new in terms of established wineries, but this St. Helena estate continues to set a precedent with every bottle produced. Here’s why you must visit Trinchero Napa Valley.
Shortly after Italian immigrant Mario Trinchero settled in the Napa Valley in 1948, his winemaking family’s legacy began to take shape. The Trincheros put down roots in wine country by purchasing a Prohibition-era winery in St. Helena and planting vineyards across the Napa Valley. If you’re a wine chronicler, the Trinchero name may sound familiar - Mario’s son, Bob Trinchero, created the world’s first White Zinfandel under the Sutter Home label. Today, the Trinchero name lives on with a newly remodeled state-of-the-art winery in St. Helena and over 200 acres of estate vineyards in St. Helena, Mt. Veeder, Atlas Peak, and Rutherford.

With views of Spring Mountain to the west and Howell Mountain to the east, Trinchero Napa Valley Winery was only established in 2007, not far from where Mario lived nearly 70 years ago. Soon after its inception, pedigreed winemaker Mario Monticelli jumped on board to create the first vintage Trinchero Napa Valley.
The revamped tasting room was completed in spring 2016. Don’t visit Trinchero simply for their wine. The 22-acre site houses the winery, tasting room, and hospitality center. Take your time inside, their rustic decor is gorgeous and worth exploring before you venture outside. Join Trinchero for a tasting at the outside fire pit in colder months, or participate in a game of bocce in the summer as you overlook the Cabernet Sauvignon vines on Mario’s Vineyard.
Mario Monticelli calls the shots when it comes to producing Trinchero’s estate wines. After studying viticulture and enology at UC Davis and hands-on experience with Antinori in Chianti and Melka Wines in Napa Valley, Monticelli took the reins at Trinchero.
Trinchero has many tasting experiences to choose from, but we have a few favorites. A Taste of Terroir is the perfect introduction to the appellations of the Napa Valley. Enjoy a horizontal tasting of four single-vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon wines, a tour of the winery with a friendly host, a gourmet cheese plate, and learn how the vineyard’s soil, climate, elevation, and sun exposure can impact the Cabernet in your glass.
For a tasting that pairs estate wines with Italian bites, opt for the food and wine pairing in their Legacy Lounge. Try four small bites crafted by their culinary team that are expertly paired with their Single Vineyard wines. Finish up in the Italian tradition with their Vin Santo-style Sémillon wine paired with house-made Cantucci (Italian almond cookies).
